UCLA Blueprint

We wanted a bold and colorful visual identity that was both smart and minimal in its execution. The branding also needed to align with UCLA’s university-wide identity system. A key component to solving this problem was finding the right illustration style, culminating in a partnership with renowned illustrator Noma Bar, who has served as chief illustrator since issue number one. We also employed the use of the custom made UCLA Karbon font as the primary typeface used in the magazine, complimented by other serif and sans serif typefaces where appropriate.
In addition to each printed publication, a bespoke website was developed in collaboration with UCLA Strategic Communications to serve as a landing place for digital versions of all articles published in the magazine and other relevant content. Some of the issues, when appropriate, were accompanied by a release event where Editor-in-Chief Jim Newton held Q&A’s with public officials, experts and researchers to give a wider context to the topics covered in Blueprint.
